Outdoor finishing materials for a wooden house. Analysis of materials for exterior decoration of a wooden house and step-by-step installation

Despite the variety of modern building materials, wood is often used in the construction and decoration of small buildings, houses, both suburban private and summer cottages, without losing its popularity and leading positions. This is due to the qualities of wood - naturalness, environmental friendliness. Both internal and with the use of various materials offers a variety of uses for wood.

First of all, then, to protect the house and its frame, as well as interior decoration from various unpleasant factors, such as: mechanical stress, mold and mildew, exposure to ultraviolet radiation, precipitation and various temperature regimes, heat loss, fires.

In addition, works on finishing the facade will make your home attractive and extend the life of the building. In addition, it is convenient and easy to hide some construction imperfections and surface defects by facing.

Materials for outdoor decoration

Among the variety of materials for outdoor decoration wooden house the following should be highlighted:

  • vinyl siding;
  • metal siding;
  • block house made of wood or metal;
  • facing brick;
  • clinker panels (otherwise they are called clinker thermal panels);
  • porcelain stoneware;
  • paints and varnishes.

It is the most common and, accordingly, popular option for finishing wooden facades of houses. Such PVC panels can be used for sheathing not only the facades of new buildings, but also for cladding old structures. If the quality of the vinyl is at the level, then it almost does not differ from ordinary lining, although it is ahead of it in a number of indicators. Among them: long service life - up to 20 years, resistance to various temperature conditions, moisture resistance, ease of maintenance Does not contribute to the formation of fungi and mold, does not load the foundation of the building.

Siding consists of only 80% PVC, and the rest contains a variety of additives that help to give the siding different color shades, as well as resistance to environmental influences, elasticity and resilience properties.

Installation of such siding is best done on a crate made of wood. This solution will create a layer of additional insulation and channels through which the gap between the siding and the wall will be ventilated. It is important to remember about additional impregnation of the sheathing beams with special compounds with antiseptics, fire retardants.

Metal siding, like vinyl siding, is good enough and is the second most frequently chosen material for facades. Decorating a house with a metal analogue has a number of advantages: increased resistance to mechanical stress, a variety of colors, fire resistance, lack of temperature ranges acceptable for facing work.

Among the disadvantages of metal is a greater load on the walls of the house than in the case of vinyl, since metal is heavier than PVC.

Block house

This is a material consisting of wooden planks that look like logs on the outside. Got quite widespread in finishing works on the facades of buildings.

The advantages of the material are as follows: attractive appearance, convenience and ease of installation, excellent heat and noise insulation, long service life, as well as hiding defects.

Of the minuses, the following stand out: the relative high cost, the need for additional processing, the risk of fire hazardous situations.

The house, made of wood and sheathed with a block house, will create the feeling and imitation of an old Russian hut. The exterior of the building will be transformed beyond recognition and will have some flavor.

Installation of such material is carried out on the crate. As with siding, an additional layer of thermal insulation and ventilation ducts can be placed under it.

It is important to remember that there is also a metal block house on the market, which differs from the usual one in some useful characteristics. Among them, the resistance to rot and mildew and resistance to fire stand out.

Brick

Will transform the look of your wooden house beyond recognition. Excellent finishing material. Quite common and well-known material, no additional description is required. It is necessary to highlight only a high service life, resistance to various types of negative influences.

Clinker panels (thermal panels)

Using such panels instead of bricks in cladding works, you can speed up the work process, as well as save on overall cladding costs. The panels themselves are the result of a mixture of clinker material and substances with thermal insulation properties.

It has a number of interesting qualities. This is resistance to moisture absorption, mechanical stress and a low coefficient of vapor permeability. It is also characterized by high strength, UV resistance, has good heat insulation properties, lasts a long time (from 50 years), and is easy to maintain. In addition, such panels are classified as environmentally friendly and harmless to human health.

Due to their characteristics, clinker panels are considered the most suitable for cladding wooden buildings.

As in previous cases, installation is carried out on a previously prepared crate. The weight of the panel is quite large, up to 19 kilograms, so it is important to fasten it to three bars using 6 self-tapping screws. This will help give extra rigidity to your structure.

Porcelain stoneware

A good solution would be to clad the walls of a wooden house with porcelain stoneware. Currently, it is presented in the building materials market in the form of slabs. This type of material gained its popularity and distribution due to its characteristics. Among them stand out strength, resistance to combustion, a variety of textures and colors, a variety of available fastening and installation methods, resistance to critically low temperatures, resistance to ultraviolet radiation. In addition, an important advantage is the absolute environmental friendliness of the material. It includes quartz sand, spar, clay (mainly white rocks), kaolin and various coloring agents.

Ideal finishing material: complete absence of chemicals and harmful effects on human health.

The issue of installing such plates is solved by installing a metal crate (in the case of wooden buildings).

Painting

As an option for finishing the facade of a wooden structure, painting is suitable. It is important to take into account some requirements for paints and varnishes:

  1. The paint should protect the walls from harmful effects for wood. environment (rain, snow, wind and fog).
  2. The coating must be resistant to ultraviolet light, which is so abundant in some warm regions of our country.
  3. The paint layer should protect the load-bearing walls from temperature extremes.

The construction market offers a fairly wide range of paints and varnishes for any needs, so there should be no difficulties in finding. Having considered the main brands, we will analyze their characteristics:

  1. PVA. It stands for polyvinyl acetate. It is a kind of water-thinned paint that is widely used in outdoor applications.
  2. Acrylic emulsion. This option will perfectly close the walls, give them durability, protect them from moisture and preserve vapor permeability.
  3. Styrene-butadiene paint. This option will perfectly save a house made of wood from moisture, however, the ability to fight ultraviolet radiation from such a coating is quite low.

To provide the best quality and most reliable protection of external walls wooden houses and buildings, it is recommended to use oil-alkyd, acrylate solutions, enamels on pentaphthal and various varnishes.

In order for the paint or varnish, the composition to lay on the wall of the house in an even layer and not lag behind, it is recommended to carry out preparatory work, which includes cleaning, sanding and grinding measures.

Other options for finishing facades

We have considered the most common and well-known options for cladding the facades of wooden buildings. It is worth touching on other types. Among them is a wet finish.

When decorating wooden houses, sometimes you can also use special plaster designed for this. To perform cladding with such plaster, you will need to take into account some subtleties.

First, the timing of the application of the plaster and the entire plastering process will depend on the method of application. In case of frame houses the cladding is allowed to start immediately, in which case the plaster coating will not crack. When working with log cabins and other types of houses that require a certain amount of time for shrinkage processes, plastering is recommended not earlier than 2, and preferably 3 years after completion of construction work.

Strict finishing requirement: work in a temperature range of 5 to 30 degrees Celsius. When working in conditions with low temperatures, a special thermal circuit will be required, otherwise the quality of the plaster coating will be low, which is fraught with cracks and delamination in the future.

Tools

Whatever material you choose to decorate your wooden house or building, it is important to properly prepare for the work process, and purchasing the material is not the final touch. It is important to ensure that you have the right tools. The standard set is as follows:

It should be noted that before starting any kind of work on facing the facade of a wooden house, all unnecessary inclusions, roughness and other flaws should be removed from the working surface, it is better to sand and grind the surface cleanly if the house is already "seasoned". If windows are inserted, then care should be taken to remove all cornices, facing elements of openings, it is also important to take into account that the windows will "dive" deep into the building, and additional work will probably be required - dismantling the old ones and installing new ones at the required level, for example ...

The importance of cladding

Carrying out high-quality finishing of the facade of a wooden house will not only create a pleasant appearance and refresh your building externally, but also give additional beneficial features... More often, in addition to the decorative function, decoration and cladding have other purposes and purposes. For instance:

  • Protection from environmental influences. Since the facade walls are special bearing structures, it is important to keep them intact and to exclude early and unexpected destruction. Facade cladding will help extend the service life, protect the walls of the house from harmful influences and preserve them for many years.

  • Sometimes a house is good in everything: both beautiful and cozy, but ... But it is cold in it, and it does not keep warm at all. The solution will be a repeated or starting cladding, under which it is easy to hide the insulation.
  • In some cases, isolation of noise and sounds plays an important role. The topic is especially relevant for settlements located on regional highways and along railways, next to noisy industries. High-quality finishing of a wooden house from the outside will help to solve this problem.

Conclusion

To summarize the accumulated experience, it should be noted that it does not matter in favor of what material or method of cladding your wooden house the choice was made. Each of the described materials and options is good enough and in its own way superior to the other, but there are no materials of poor quality and "bad" or "good". There are some important points, which are not taken into account in facing work, which results in fallen off slabs of porcelain stoneware, cracking bricks, loose plaster ... A truly high-quality exterior finish of a wooden house guarantees an impeccable result: the durability and beauty of your home.

Outdoor decoration a wooden house allows you to realize any design ideas using without the involvement of professionals. The best options for self-assembly of panels, stone and wet materials are discussed below. For this, it is important to stock up on the necessary tools, decorative items and the necessary means for surface preparation.

Method selection:

  • Dry installation. As an example, below is the exterior finish of a wooden house in the photo. The whole process is carried out with dowels, clamps, screws, nails, etc. The choice of materials is between panels, siding, block house, imitation of a bar, etc.
  • Wet technology. The lining is carried out using glue and other binders based on water composition. These include plastering, clinker and tiles.
  • There are options in which the original appearance of the structure is preserved. The walls are covered with special impregnation or decorated with paint.

The types of exterior decoration of a wooden house are divided into the main types of structures:

  1. Ventilated facade. The product forms a gap between the external cladding and the facade.
  2. Non-ventilated facade. The fixing of products is carried out directly to the wall without the formation of free gaps.

Preparation of materials

Materials for exterior decoration of a wooden house are presented in the form of thermal panels and siding. In addition, you can carry out plastering and painting surfaces, decorating with stone and clapboard.

Attention! In outbuildings, plastic plates and even bricks often appear.

Surface preparation

Pre-treatment consists in applying an antiseptic to a previously cleaned surface. It is important to provide for sealing joints and sealing deformations. Caulking is carried out around the entire perimeter using flax fiber or jute.

Facing the facade of the house with panels

Exterior decoration of a wooden house with panels is carried out using a material with a thickness of 5 to 10 cm. The application of products is carried out according to the principle of a ventilated facade, but the use of a wet method of placement on the wall by means of glue is possible.

Fastening to the lattice is made in 50-60 cm increments. Thermal insulation is placed between the film layer. The panels are tightly fastened with self-tapping screws.

Seams are rubbed with a special compound. Connectors are placed in the corners. They are placed prior to installation. Following this, the slabs are placed on a flat horizontal surface, according to the figure.

Siding placement

Finishing the external walls of a wooden house consists in the production of the main stages:

  1. Lathing arrangements (wooden beams or metal profiles).
  2. Placement of heat and vapor barrier (film and insulation roll / tile).
  3. Creation of an additional lattice (bars with smaller parameters or a special mount).
  4. In some cases, external finishing of windows in a wooden house will be required.

Description of work:

  • The lathing is created on top of clean and even walls in 600 mm increments. The elements are placed horizontally. The formation of drops can be corrected with solid substrates.
  • The vapor barrier is overlapped by 10-15 cm. The joints are sealed with adhesive tape. Fixation of the film to wooden beams is ensured with a construction stapler.
  • Polymer or basalt materials serve as insulation. The latter are available in the form of slabs or mats. Products are laid between the elements of the crate. Adjoining the grating should not affect the formation of gaps. The top layer of insulation makes an additional layer of film laid with a rough covering in the inner part. Insulation with a vapor barrier is connected by means of plastic fungi or tape.

  • The second level of the crate is placed on top. Vertical placement of a bar 2.5x2.5-3 cm thick promotes system ventilation. The gap is at least 3 cm. At the corners, 2 beams are attached each, used to fix the corner elements.
  • Siding is placed from the corners. After finishing the outer corners, sew the first plate. It is located below, at a distance of 20-30 cm from the ground surface. The first plate is fixed at a level. Its placement determines the even location of the entire structure. If the product forms a gap to the corner of the building, then the joint is staggered.

Finishing of plastic windows

Preparation of materials:

  1. Plastic panels.
  2. Corners.
  3. Hermetic composition.
  4. Stapler with staples.

Installation steps:

A starter strip is placed for inserting plastic panels.

The panels are fixed to the slopes with self-tapping screws. They are screwed in with a screwdriver in the upper and lower positions.

The rest of the parts are attached. To completely overlap the width of the slope, several panels will be required, interconnected according to the principle of a thorn and a groove.

The joints are treated with a hermetic compound. External and internal plastic corners are mounted. This is facilitated by liquid nails or assembly glue. You can use polyurethane foam to place the outer corners.

Lining slopes

Installation of slopes is carried out according to the principle plastic slopes or using lathing. The material is fixed over the slope by means of self-tapping screws using a screwdriver. For this, a starting strip is initially placed around the perimeter.

The formation of defects during installation is hidden under the corners, which contribute to the tightness of the product.

Plastering

Before processing the product, markers or "beacons" are placed to determine the thickness of the plaster layer. Markers are crafted from alabaster. The installation of markers is carried out on a nailed shingle. Then a coarse layer of material (9-12 mm) is applied to fill the shingle cells. After drying, the surface is primed and covered with a thin layer of 2 mm. The final thickness of the plaster layer is 12 - 20 mm.

All additional elements - plinths, platbands, fillets and baguettes are fixed after the plaster layer has completely dried. And the gaps between them and the plaster surface are filled with a similar solution.

Brick finishing

The works are carried out using facade bricks. To fix the masonry on the facade walls, place connected elements made of metal clamps. A gap is created between the brick and the outer wall, which is necessary for natural ventilation... Its width is 5 cm.

Application of PVC panels

It is assembled on a crate, which is vertical slats stuffed at a distance of 40 cm. You can use metal and wooden structures, on top of which the panels are screwed. The gap between the ends of the two plates is close to 7 mm; it is not worth screwing the products very tightly. Sheathing is done from the center to the edge.

Using tiles

Tiles with imitation of wild stone, brickwork and marble surfaces are used for cladding foundations. Fastening is done with adhesives. It is important to build a crate. To simplify the masonry, guide profiles are placed.

Block house placement

Outside, the material serves as an imitation of a rounded log or a classic log house. And inside the panel adjoins the wall by means of a lathing. Fastening is carried out according to the principle of thorn-phases. Plates are applied horizontally or vertically. The first option is carried out using panels measuring 23 * 88 mm. Horizontal mounting facilitates the placement of the studs at the top. The corner joint is formed by sawing the panels at an angle of 45 degrees. or by closing the inner corner with the outer one. Clips or small nails are used to attach to the grille. Self-tapping screws are used for a wide block house.

Before fastening, holes for self-tapping screws are created in the lining. They are then hidden with plugs placed with an adhesive base.

For supporters of ecological solutions, for those who appreciate the natural attractiveness of natural forms, shades and textures, the question is: "... What material to choose for the exterior decoration of the facade?" simply does not exist - they choose natural wood. Considering the unique physicists - chemical properties natural wood, its sound insulating qualities and ability to "breathe", keep warm and decorative over time, interchangeability of individual elements wood paneling, then the uniqueness of this finishing material will become obvious.

As for the external decorativeness of wood, it is wood that opens up unlimited prospects for the designer's imagination: the abundance of texture options, colors, shades, product classes will always allow everyone to make their own, individual choice. Both externally and interior decoration conifers and deciduous species are successfully used.

It is especially worth dwelling on the operational qualities of wood as a unique finishing and building material. The cladding made of wood has high strength, exceptional insulating properties in relation to heat, sound, electricity. Wooden facing external solid wood will insulate the room, suppress annoying nervous system extraneous street noises, will create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort. Certain types of wood also have unique moisture resistance.

As the undoubted advantages of the facade cladding with facing material made of natural wood, it should be noted the ability of wood to resist significant mechanical stress, its resistance to oxidation, the action of aqueous solutions of salts and acids. At the same time, wood perfectly accepts processing and deep impregnation with fire retardants and antiseptics, which makes it possible to increase its resistance to fire and the harmful effects of woodworm.

And, finally, attracts the truly unique ability of natural wood finishing materials to organically combine with stone, wrought iron, vinyl siding, etc. This combination allows you to realize the most daring artistic ideas, while maintaining the proper level of functionality and performance ...

Modern cladding materials

The arguments in favor of decorating the house with wood, as you can see, are quite weighty. We will consider options for modern cladding materials offered on the market today. So, the most popular of them are lining, imitation of a bar, block house, siding.

This is the name of the wall sheathing board made from a single piece of wood. Differs in strength and durability, simplicity and speed of installation, which allows finishing country house, cottages or baths quickly and efficiently. The lining is very unpretentious in operation, interchangeable, makes it possible to use a wide range of tinting and paint coatings. Individual structural elements are connected during the installation process according to the tenon-groove principle.

A vertical joint with a four-piece closure does not always provide a sufficiently tight fit - the boards can "slide" relative to each other. Herringbone plate mounting is very popular, in which the plates overlap in height.

One of the key features and advantages of the lining is lightness, which allows you to finish the facade of the house without fear of damaging its foundation and load-bearing walls... The clapboard coating contributes to improved thermal insulation and greater noise absorption.

High-quality wooden lining for external cladding is a product made from wood carefully dried in a chamber and processed after using high-tech modern equipment. Today, such lining is widely used for exterior cladding of private houses and cottages, gazebos, loggias and balconies, elite commercial offices. Finally, another major advantage exterior decoration the lining is its ventilation, due to the specially provided for the design of the air ducts. This technical feature of the product allows the wall of the house to "breathe" and not to accumulate condensation, which means it can resist fungus, mold, and decay. Both coniferous and deciduous woods are actively used as a material for the production of outdoor lining.

A board that successfully imitates the assembled surface of the wall of a house rebuilt from a solid wooden bar. The minimum consumption of material allows you to save on a ready-made solution, at the same time to achieve the effect of "solidity", reliability, durability, which are inherent in buildings made of solid timber. One of the key advantages of a high-quality timber imitation outer covering is a very attractive price / practicality / durability combination.

Laying, as in the case of lining and block - house, is carried out according to the principle of a thorn - groove on a layer of insulation. Thanks to the use of modern heat-insulating materials, exceptional heat-insulating and sound-absorbing properties are achieved. This type of coating is mounted, as a rule, horizontally on a crate of bars, located perpendicular to the boards at a distance of 500 ... 800 mm. In this position, the panels are ridge up. The surface of the material with professional assembly of the cladding structure is smooth and perfectly flat. The material of the "backing" does not play any role here. Sheathing with imitation of a bar is allowed both from the outside and from the inside. Smaller panels are used for interior decoration.

An imitation of a bar is made from a special billet, consisting of two parts, which makes it possible to reduce excessive mechanical stress in the tree species and reduces the natural process of deformation of the board to a minimum. The imitation of a bar made of pine and Siberian larch is very popular today. Imitation of larch timber exceeds oak in terms of resistance to decay, and the concentration of resin blocks the resolving effect of wood borers. In accordance with European standards, the moisture content of the finished product should not exceed 10 -12%. The imitation of larch timber fully meets the grade requirements, and is classified as varieties: Extra (0), A (1-2), B (3) and C (4). The length of the finished product ranges from 2 to 4 m, the width is from 65 to 200 mm.

A kind of cladding board, which is an exact imitation of the wall of a frame made of massive rounded logs. At the same time, the block - house has a different thickness and radius of the bypass, has all the advantages inherent in imitation of a bar, gives the facade of a cottage or house a feeling of reliability. The most common material for the production of block - house is coniferous wood - spruce and Angara pine, creating an original coziness village house in country style. The block - house made of cedar and larch, aspen, linden, birch looks exceptionally impressive.

For the interior decoration of the walls of the house, a narrower block is used - a house (20mm with a width of 80 -90mm - for interior decoration), which allows you to free up a maximum of useful living space. The feeling of a solid wall allows you to create special fixing corners used to join individual panels in the corners.

One of the key differences between a rounded log and a block house is the chamber drying of the wood from which it is made. At the exit, a finishing material is obtained that is an order of magnitude stronger, and devoid of many of the shortcomings inherent in an ordinary log. Kiln-dried wood allows to obtain a finishing material with almost perfect geometric shapes. On an industrial scale, a block house is made from a log, guided by the "square in a circle" scheme. In limited quantities, block-house lining is produced on a four-sided milling machine by standard edging board processing. The "Extra" block - house varieties are distinguished by the highest processing precision and the highest quality.

Installation of the block house is carried out on a previously prepared surface, while the tongue is fitted into the groove. The first plank is installed so that the groove "sits" on the tongue.

Standard sizes of block - house: length - from 2000 to 6000mm. The useful tire of the front surface is taken as the nominal width, the maximum thickness of the board is taken as the thickness (regardless of the section). The most popular in the domestic market today are the following standard sizes:

  • 20 × 90 × 2000mm
  • 20 × 90 × 6000mm
  • 30 × 140 × 2000mm
  • 30 × 140 × 6000mm
  • 36 × 190 × 2000mm
  • 36 × 190 × 6000mm

Depending on the quality, the block - house is divided into two classes - "A" and "B". Class "A" allows healthy knots, strong knots with minimal defects, wormholes and resin pockets up to 3mm in size - up to 50cm per 1 m in total. Class "B" allows healthy dark knots up to 45mm, damaged knots and cracks, thickness no more than 1mm, no ingrown knots up to 5mm, in total not exceeding 25% per item. Resin pockets in this class do not exceed 8mm.

Or a facade board with an oblique profile, which is more often used in finishing small architectural forms and in interior decoration of premises. Nevertheless, it can turn out to be a very successful finishing material for those facades where it is required to achieve an organic combination of the texture of natural wood and other decorative finishing materials. It is a planken board with bevels removed from four corners. The configuration of chamfers can be different - from oval to rectangular. Planken differs from the shape of the edges of the finished product. Planken has rounded corners, planed board - straight.

The most popular material for the production of planken is Siberian larch, whose wood, due to the high concentration of resin, is resistant to moisture, the harmful effects of wood borers and the decay process. Planken made of larch can withstand torrential rains, snow and wind for years without losing its operational and decorative qualities. However, in order to prolong the life and enhance the unique texture of the wood, we recommend applying a protective layer.

The plank is fixed in such a way that a small gap remains between the panels, which provides ventilation and does not allow moisture to condense in the cracks. In conditions of high humidity, the board can increase in volume, which, due to the gap, will not lead to deformation of the entire structure. This method of fastening allows you to easily replace one failed board with another, without undermining the rest!

Modern materials for facades are distinguished by both high decorativeness and versatility. Their structures and fasteners are made in such a way that installation can be done at some distance from the wall. The resulting voids are filled with a heat-insulating layer, and the air circulating between the wall and the finishing coating avoids condensation of moisture on the surface of the wall and leading to the destruction of the latter.

If you are interested in achieving the effect described in this section and at the same time are not going to burden yourself with caring for the protective and decorative coating of the facade, choose siding (English "siding" - " outer skinProfiled siding is of two types: "herringbone" and "shipboard." The profile of the material and its texture do not significantly affect the mechanical strength of the finished structure.

The latest technologies for drying wood and gluing it along the length open up fundamentally new possibilities in the manufacture of wood siding. Special paints and varnishes will protect the material from the destructive influence of the climatic factor and atmospheric influences.

The key features of wood siding finishing are ease of installation and maintenance. Siding is actively used for cladding a new house and in the reconstruction of old buildings. The panels are mounted on a wooden lathing, while the joints are overlapped. Panel joints at the corners are closed by an external or internal corner. The fastening package also includes additional elements designed to cover joints and cuts.

The house, with high quality siding, looks just great. The coating creates a feeling of lightness, very decorative. Mineral wool or any other heat-insulating material capable of retaining the heat of the "home" is placed under the siding as a heater.

Advantages of wood siding outdoor cladding:

  • the possibility of using in climatic zones with significant temperature differences;
  • environmental friendliness of the material;
  • the possibility of improvisation and freedom to embody the most daring design ideas;
  • ease of installation, which makes it easy to mount the coating without special skills;
  • long service life subject to high-quality installation;
  • the possibility of laying an insulating layer, which can significantly reduce the cost of heating a house in winter;
  • allows in the shortest possible time to reconstruct and strengthen the facade of a rather dilapidated structure, opens up the possibility for a quick "change of scenery" of the facing coating, and if necessary, it is easy to replace a deformed panel or several;
  • attractive price of the coating and installation itself;
  • decorativeness of the facade.

Protection of external wood coatings

Application of protective compounds to the surface of wooden facades - special antiseptics, paints, varnishes and oils - is a guarantee of reliable protection of wood from pests, premature loss of decorativeness by the coating, overgrowing with moss and darkening, cracking.

The range of modern paints and varnishes is very extensive and requires careful attention when choosing. The properties of the paint and varnish material (LKM) are determined by the chemical composition, the presence and concentration of pigments, specialized additives and fillers.

The most important component of any paintwork materials is a film-forming substance that acts as a binder for the entire composition. After the paint is applied to the surface of the coating, in the process of chemical reactions a film is formed on it, which performs both a protective and decorative function.

When choosing paintwork materials for a wooden facade, the atmospheric factor, the intensity of sunlight in the region, humidity, temperature differences, requirements for preserving the natural decorativeness of wood, etc. are taken into account.

Choosing a tree for decoration

There is no ugly wood - there is a wrong choice and a wrongly realized artistic concept! The native birch is also beautiful in its simplicity, and the exotic keruing tree, brought to us from India, enchants with its unusual texture. For taste and color, as they say, there are no comrades. Different textures, different physical, chemical and performance characteristics.

For outdoor decoration, cladding materials from both deciduous and coniferous species, including pine, pleasant to our ears at its price, are suitable. Nevertheless, we have to admit: the more valuable the breed, the more successful and high-quality the finish and the higher the durability of the protective and decorative finishing coating. Let's take a closer look at the most popular breeds.

The king of finishing materials, which simply has no equal for this purpose. In nature, there are about 200 varieties of oak! And wealth colors? From red-brown to light yellow-pink. Time passes and the oak darkens, but, surprisingly, such changes in no way diminish the decorative effect of the oak finishing coating, on the contrary - it becomes even more prestigious, even more significant, even more expressive. Oak is a very durable and solid wood: oak cladding will last as long as the house itself will serve you. The disadvantages of oak wood include: a porous structure, with pronounced large vessels. This feature imposes particularly stringent requirements on the drying process. In addition, certain difficulties are associated with grinding. That is why you should be especially careful when purchasing finishing materials from oak. It is best to buy and install oak finishing materials from trusted vendors.

Very recognizable finishing material with a light pink, fine texture formed by fine vessels. In many respects, the popularity of beech, which closely approaches the hardness of wood to oak, is explained by a more affordable price.

The homogeneous structure of wood gives the finishing materials from it a "calm", warm and soft shade. Not inferior to oak in strength, beech is perfectly polished and tinted in almost any color. But beech is also very picky about drying: if improperly processed during operation, it can behave unpredictably - it will crack or deform.

Another very promising wood species. The range of colors ranges from light pink… to dark brown. The texture of the drawing contains small vessels and a pronounced characteristic ornament on the cut.

Ash is superior in strength to oak itself (!), Differs in flexibility, plasticity, perfectly polished. And what is very important, ash does not crack, even if it is not too high-quality drying. Ash exterior trim elements will allow the owner of the house not to worry about their safety, which cannot be said about elite oak.

The tree is recognizable by its noble, warm pink-brown, sometimes pink-grayish hue. Over time, cherry wood darkens.

Cherries are easy to process and are much softer than oak.

The tree is very peculiar. The color and structure of its wood differ depending on where the tree grew - in America or southern Europe, but the value of the wood does not decrease in the least. Being a relatively hard tree, walnut is easy to work with, resistant to deformation and cracking during drying.

The tree is beautiful and expensive, distinguished by its noble texture and a wide range of shades - from white to reddish.

Maple has a very high strength, impact strength, and good sanding properties. This is a tree that is practically devoid of flaws and can be used in any decoration work.

A truly Russian representative on the valuable timber market. It is a decay-resistant, extremely tough wood with a distinct and recognizable texture. The color range is from reddish yellow to dark brown.

The disadvantage of larch is capriciousness in processing, due to which larch is often used not as a finishing one, but as construction material... But when creating terraces, this tree is almost irreplaceable.

Another native Russian (or rather Siberian) representative of the world of building and finishing materials, is even more resistant to decay than larch. High quality dried, this tree of noble dark brown or light yellow tones, no longer changes its properties.

The cost of a pine block house starts at 200 rubles. per sq. m., larch lining - from 130 rubles, larch plank - from 140 rubles. per sq. m. Imitation under a larch timber will cost 145 rubles. per sq. m. In comparison, lining made of tropical valuable species of mahogany will cost from 1500 to 3000 rubles per "square".

You can also find on the market lining made of especially valuable species, which was brought to us from afar. This type of exterior finish is considered elite. It is chosen for themselves by those who are going not only to surprise, but to shake the imagination!

An example is a lining from brakes - a valuable tree growing in the Philippines and the islands of New Guinea. The tree is listed as an endangered species, and the popularity of products from it is explained by its phenomenal resistance to decay and the destructive factor of moisture. Products made of brakes are delivered to Russia in limited quantities and for a specific customer. The cost per square meter of braking is not given.

There is another tree in Southeast Asia that has gained particular popularity in a narrow circle of connoisseurs of woody exoticism - this is merbau.

The merbau cut is unique and, above all, its color range is unique, presented in the widest range - from pale yellow to deep dark, dotted with small light veins. The texture of such wood can be viewed for hours, not to mention the finishing materials from merbau, the appearance of which evokes admiration and unquestioning respect for the owner of the house - a connoisseur of exotic beauty with such a refined taste.

Merbau is absolutely not afraid of moisture, direct sunlight, temperature fluctuations in a wide range.

The disadvantages of wood finishing materials include:

  • hygroscopicity - in the presence of excess moisture, physical and mechanical characteristics deteriorate;
  • flammability if the wood has not been specially treated;
  • the presence of natural wood defects - cracks, knots, resin pockets ...;
  • the need for periodic painting of the finishing surface;
  • fungus.

Nevertheless, high-quality, properly prepared and processed wood, as we already know, is devoid of most of the above disadvantages.

Wooden finishing materials inside and outside, artistic ladders made of hard wood, decorative railings and shutters, visors that reliably protect from the willful elements - all this as a whole will definitely return to the owners of the house a feeling of a fairy tale, create a unique atmosphere of reliability, harmony and comfort is invariably associated in our perception with the concept of "home".

Wall cladding with natural wood materials, on the one hand, creates a complete illusion of its "woody" origin, and on the other, by reducing wood consumption, it can significantly reduce the felling of coniferous forests, which has a positive effect on the environment in general.

Before finishing a wooden house outside, the question of the choice of material always arises. It is difficult to find a combination of original design, low price, easy installation, and even increased thermal insulation. Together with our readers, we will try to figure out what the external decoration of a wooden house should be and how to properly carry it out, which options are better for a tree, we will see a few photos and video materials on these issues.

Types and purpose of facade finishing

A wooden house is not only comfortable and environmentally friendly, but also able to “breathe”. Without proper care, it can quickly rot or warp. Exterior decoration should not only express the character of the owner and emphasize individuality, but also protect from wind, rain and sun.

According to the method of installation, the decoration of the facade of a wooden house is divided into types:

According to the design of the external finish, the cashing of the facade of a wooden house is divided into:

  1. Ventilated facade. This design provides for the location of the ventilated gap between the structure and the façade. Condensation, mold and mildew will not form there. Such a finish is convenient for additional insulation and protection of the facade from mechanical stress.
  2. Non-ventilated facade. The material is attached directly to the wall with no additional gap. In this case, insulation is done from the inside of the house.

A ventilated facade is more suitable for a wooden house, since the tree must “breathe” and the excess moisture must be weathered. And an additional 2-3 cm air gap makes wooden structure even warmer.

What materials are used for a ventilated facade

Among the most popular and affordable materials are options for thermal panels and siding. Each of them has its pros and cons, as well as installation features.

Before any decoration of a wooden house from the outside, it must be treated with antiseptics and cleaned. It is better to use antiseptics with a deep penetrating action, even drying oil is suitable, since in the future the walls will still close. If a house is made of a bar or a log, you need to make additional caulking around the entire perimeter of the building with flax fiber or jute.

Siding facade

Siding can be: metal, vinyl (the colors of which can be seen in the photo) and wood (imitation of a bar or block house). This option for finishing the facade is popular due to the main advantages of the material:

To make it easier to compare some siding options, consider the table:

Characteristic Vinyl siding Metal siding Wooden siding (imitation of a bar)
Sustainability Not environmentally friendly Not environmentally friendly Eco-friendly as it is like finishing with wood
Aesthetics Aesthetic Aesthetic Aesthetic
Requires additional processing Does not require Does not require Coating with paints and varnishes
Durability Up to 30 years Under 50 Up to 40 years old, but with proper and timely care.
Panel price From 120 From 210 From 250
The price for components (external and internal corner, starting, connecting, etc.): 230 to 560 270 to 750 340 to 1100
Fire danger Doesn't burn but melts Does not burn, does not melt Is burning
Resistant to high and low temperatures Persistent, but becomes brittle when severely frozen. Persistent Persistent

Any of the types is suitable for finishing the facade of a wooden house with siding. And we will consider how to do this below.

Installation of a siding facade

The entire installation of siding facade cladding can be divided into main stages:

  1. Installation of lathing (timber or metal profile)
  2. Heat and vapor barrier (ribbon and insulation, rolled or tiled)
  3. Installation of the second lathing (smaller bar or special fasteners)
  4. Siding decoration.

The lathing should be fixed on leveled walls in 60 cm increments, horizontally. If there are irregularities, then you can substitute wood trimmings under the bars. The main thing is that the crate is even, since this is the envy of the future facade. The siding of a wooden house can break during shrinkage, so you need to let the wooden structure settle down and only then start work.

The vapor barrier is laid by rolling it with an overlap of 10-15 cm, the joints are glued with tape. It is convenient to fasten it to a wooden wall with a construction stapler.

Any insulation can be used, but it is easier to use matte. It is laid between the crate. It is important that the abutment to the crate is tight without gaps and cracks. From above it is again covered with a vapor barrier, with the rough side inward. You can fix the insulation with a vapor barrier using a special tape or fixing mushrooms.

On top of the structure, a second lathing is attached, vertically from bars with a section of 25x25-30 mm. It is needed to create a ventilated facade. The gap should be at least 3 cm. At the corners, two bars should be fixed, which are needed to fix the corner pieces.

Siding panels begin to be fastened from the corners. First, all outer corners are attached, and only then the first panel is sewn. Siding cladding starts from the bottom, stepping back from the ground by 20-30 cm. The first panel must be fastened according to the level, the evenness of the entire facade will depend on its quality. Facade cladding with siding requires attention and constant checking by the level of the correct arrangement of parts, as well as correct fastening with self-tapping screws (you can see this in more detail in the photo).

If the length of the panel is not enough from corner to corner of the house, then they are joined using an internal or external connecting staggered. This will make the seam look more beautiful.

Facing the facade of the house with panels

Thermal panels have been used in our country relatively recently, the fashion for them came to us from Canada. Sheathing with thermal panels not only makes the facade beautiful, but also insulates it. If the paneling is done correctly, then in terms of thermal conductivity, it will replace 1m brickwork. The texture is multi-layered from a dense water-repellent upper and a porous inner lining.

The colors of the thermal panels are different, but judging by the reviews on the network, monochromatic and brickwork ones are especially popular for wooden houses. The thickness of the panel can be from 5 to 10 cm, you can see the material in the photo.

The main advantages of finishing the facade with panels:

  1. Additional thermal insulation.
  2. Wind and water resistant.
  3. The multi-layered structure makes the material resistant to mechanical damage.
  4. Savings on painting and additional insulation.
  5. Externally, the walls resemble stone or tile decoration.

The disadvantages of sheathing with thermal panels include:

  1. High cost (from 150 rubles / 1m2).
  2. Some coatings crack and lose their appearance in severe frost.
  3. They do not burn, but they melt and give off pungent smoke.

The design of the trim with thermal panels is still the same ventilated facade, but there is also a wet method of gluing directly to a flat wooden wall, as in the photo. But we will take a closer look at the ventilated facade.The main difference from the siding fastening is that you can take less insulation, or not use it at all for a country house.

The cladding is attached to the crate, the pitch of which is from 50-60 cm. The insulation is laid between the vapor barrier film and a ventilated gap is left. You need to fix the panels with self-tapping screws, tightly joining them together.

At the end of work with thermal panels, the seams are rubbed with special compounds. With this type of decoration, special attention is paid to the corners of the house. For corner joints, special connectors are used, which can be viewed in the presented photo. They are attached first of all, since the masonry resembles a decorative brick, then all the rows should be connected into a single pattern. After fixing the corners, you need to lay out the panels on the ground in a certain order according to the drawing, so the work will go faster.

It is not always possible to finish with thermal panels with your own hands, so we present to the attention of our readers the price for work in the form of a table:

Type of finishing works Features: Price, rub / m2
Fastening thermal panels to the finished crate The price may vary depending on the complexity of the wall structure from 830
Joining and grouting Can be performed only at temperatures above 0 degrees from 300
Installation of battens The price varies depending on the material (wood, metal profile) and evenness of the walls from 150-250
Installation of slopes and their finishing Depending on the material used and the complexity of the design Finishing:
  • Plastic panels from 250 m
  • Plastering and coating with paint and varnish compositions from 550 linear meters
  • Clinker tiles for panels from 750 m.
  • Decorating front elements without painting and putty from 250 m
Works required for finishing the facade (additional)
Installation of gutters Any element (chute, pipe, bend) From 300 m
Roof slope filing (spotlights) From 350m
Installing the end plate From 250 m

Before deciding to finish the facade of a wooden house with your own hands or to hire professionals, you need to weigh the pros and cons:

  1. The installation technology, although it seems simple, requires painstaking and precise work. If the warranty for durability and quality is slightly violated, it cannot be done.
  2. The price of the panels and siding itself is not high, but the components for them are expensive. Before work, you need to carefully calculate all the connecting and angular, and it is difficult to do this without professionals.
  3. If you use a tree as a crate, then before work it must be dried and treated with an antiseptic even before fastening.

We hope you make the right decision, and the decoration of the house will delight the residents of the house for more than a dozen years. If siding and paneling does not suit you, you can find interesting information on other materials in the articles on our site.

The first impression about a house is formed when looking at its facade, therefore it is so important to choose the right materials for cladding the outside of the house.

As a rule, facade cladding requires their foam blocks, wood and aerated concrete at home.

The cladding material used for cladding buildings must meet the following requirements:

  • Durability, high functionality;
  • Protection of the house from the effects of atmospheric phenomena;
  • Provide fire safety;
  • Create an aesthetic look.

For this, the products used for cladding must have the properties:

  • Vapor permeability and moisture absorption;
  • Air permeability;
  • Good thermal conductivity;
  • Fire resistance;
  • Resistant to chemical and biological effects.

What can you "dress" the house

The packaging must be of good quality and not damaged. It is better if the material is purchased in its original packaging.

Such a different plaster

This material is used as a decorative coating in the implementation of the wet ventilated facade technology.

The work is carried out according to the scheme:

  • Base layer - reinforced mesh and adhesive;
  • Thermal insulation;
  • Decorative layer.

Plaster is a breathable, moisture resistant material, there is a huge selection of textures and colors. The top layer is easy to change if necessary, which provides additional convenience.

Distinguish the following types:

Mineral. Differs in increased strength, it does not need to be treated against fungus and bacteria. Its cost is low, there is a possibility of textured surface design.

The disadvantage is a small selection of decor, but this can be corrected by choosing a white material and after a while repaint the wall of the house in another color you like.

Silicate. It has enhanced vapor permeability and good electrostatic properties. It contains potassium glass, which provides attractive qualities.

Silicone. The cost is superior to other options. The advantages include a wide selection of colors, good elasticity, and vapor permeability. Easy to clean.

Acrylic. It contains many artificially created resin compounds. She has the ability to pass moisture from the house to the outside. The noted disadvantages of this option are that the surface becomes dirty quickly.

Stone cladding

Can be used as a material for cladding the outside of the house stone.

It is a very reliable and durable material, highly resistant to temperature extremes and negative environmental factors.

Is natural safe materialwhich has a long service life. It is used in any climate, its installation is quite simple, which allows you to sheathe the house yourself.

The disadvantages include high weight and high cost, but given the durability of the stone, this is insignificant. The house, faced with natural stone, looks very chic and rich.

Fake diamond. It is used, as a rule, to decorate columns, cornices. It is lighter in weight natural stone, which makes it easy to transport and install.

Accordingly, the cost of the product itself and work with it is significantly lower.

As for the service life, they are much lower than that of natural natural stones.

Timber, block house and lining

House cladding natural wood solves several problems at once. This design allows you to create warm walls, provide excellent sound insulation, and give the building a pleasant, cozy look.

But the wood needs constant maintenance. The surface must be treated with various impregnations from fire and putrefactive processes. For this, antiseptics and varnishes are used.

A block house is a type of wood sheathing that looks like a timber. It provides high moisture resistance and strength to the walls of the building.

It is possible to create an imitation of almost any type of wood.

In addition, if damaged, these products are easy to restore; the surface should be sanded and painted. The walls, decorated with a block house, look aesthetically pleasing and neat.

The products provide a minimum load on the foundation. depending on the type of wood used to create it.

For example, linden is resistant to mold, oak does not rot, it is easy to work with, and pine is attractive for its affordable price and a huge selection of colors.

Tiles and siding

The following types of tiles can be used for wall cladding:

Decorative. Differs in increased strength and resistance to negative weather conditions, increases the thermal insulation of the walls.

It is easy to work with it and requires minimal maintenance.

Terracotta. Resistant to low temperatures, heat-resistant, has an affordable cost. The surface decorated with terracotta products looks elegant and aesthetically pleasing.

Clinker room. It has a very wide selection of colors, which allows you to create a unique look of the building. It serves as an excellent protection for walls from sudden temperature changes.

Siding retains an attractive appearance for a long time, is not subject to decay, corrosion. You can work with him at any time of the year.

But it will serve for a long time only if you follow the installation technology recommended by the manufacturers.

It is best to buy exterior cladding materials from well-known manufacturers in specialized construction centers.
