Pvc and mdf panels for facades, living rooms and bathrooms. Interior wall panels

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is one of the modern polymeric materials that is widely used in construction, including used in the manufacture of panels for wall cladding. The technology for manufacturing PVC panels is quite simple, so there are a lot of manufacturers of materials of this type in Russia. At the beginning of 2015, there were more than 200 manufactures (according to the industry catalog of manufacturers www.100panel.ru). The largest and most famous companies are:

  • KronaPlast;
  • Union;
  • Plastek.
Advantages and disadvantages of plastic panels (PVC)
pros Minuses
  • one of the cheapest finishing materials;
  • ease of installation, do not require surface preparation (for sectional panels);
  • resistance to aggressive environments:moisture, temperature, fungus;
  • durable, are unpretentious in operation and maintainable.
  • fire hazard and not environmentally friendly;
  • turn yellow and fade under the influence of ultraviolet radiation (sunlight);
  • appearance, they look cheap, and the applied drawings with the texture of natural materials are a clear imitation (although there is no dispute about tastes, someone is quite satisfied)
  • low durability to pinpoint strikes

As you can see, the pros and cons balance each other out. But let's dwell on this issue in a little more detail: what is the most important? Perhaps the key disadvantage of PVC sections is fire hazard. Despite the fact that all manufacturers assure that their materials do not catch fire and can withstand temperatures up to 400 degrees (this is true), plastic still poses a threat in case of fire. It melts and releases toxic substances that are fatal to the human body. That is why PVC panels are not recommended for wall decoration in crowded places and fire hazardous areas.

However, along with such serious shortcomings, there is a very big plus - this is the price. Wall plastic panels - not just an inexpensive finishing material, but the cheapest compared to wallpaper, tiles or other paneling. If you remember how easy it is to work with it (without preparing the walls, you can completely sheathe a room in one day), then the plastic already looks quite attractive and competitive.

Price range of PVC wall decoration products:

  • simplest white matte section: 120-150 rub. per sq.m;
  • panel with color pattern: 140-170 rub. per sq.m:
  • profiles and accessories (corners, F-prof., H-prof., etc.): 30-50 rubles. per piece.

Varieties of plastic panels

Plastic panels can be divided into two large groups: sectional and sheet... Let's take a look at each type separately.

Sectional PVC wall panels are sections consisting of two sheets of hard plastic, welded together by ribs. If you look at such a section in section, you can see that there are empty cells between the edges, they are called honeycombs.

Standard sizes:

  • thickness: from 4 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm;
  • length: 3000 mm;
  • width: 125 mm, 250 mm, 380 mm;

Vinyl lining is a kind of sectional panels. The construction is absolutely the same as that of ordinary PVC sections, but each panel resembles a board processed according to the Euro-lining standard, that is, with a groove and a ridge. In the interiors of apartments it is extremely rarely used, since the lining is, first of all, a material for exterior decoration houses outside the city.

Sheet panels- plastic sheets for decorative wall cladding, 0.4 mm thick. Unlike sections, they are not attached to the frame, but glued to the prepared (leveled) wall surface. Thin sheets can be compared to wallpaper. They also roll into rolls, cut with scissors, they can be used to form an uneven surface (for example). Such materials are not very popular and are rarely used due to the overly complicated surface preparation procedure. The fact is that if you invested 500 rubles (per square meter) in the preparation of the wall, it is stupid to sculpt plastic on top for 100. It is much more rational to glue paper wallpaper ( natural material) or consider other more impressive options.

The only place where PVC sheets have taken root is. Panels with photo printing are made from PVC sheets, while sometimes plastic is used and of greater thickness (up to 2 mm).

External texture, front surface

Polyvinyl chloride is a very plastic material, which, in the manufacturing process, manufacturers can give any color from a rich range, different surface texture - smooth, matte or with a relief pattern. In addition, the surface of the panels is treated with several different ways for drawing images. By the type of drawing, they distinguish thermal transfer, offset and laminated PVC panels.

On thermal transfer panels The pattern is formed using a special thermal transfer film, which is pressed to the surface of the panel by means of a heated rotating cylinder, as a result of which the image from the film is transferred to the panel. Then the panel is additionally covered with a special protective film and varnish. Drawings are made by artists, plots and colors can be very diverse.

Offset panels have a pattern that is applied using ink from a printer, called offset, then the surface is covered with a protective durable layer of varnish, which reliably protects against scratches and other damage. Offset panels usually mimic the surface of other materials, such as natural stone or wood.

Laminated panels obtained by pasting with a thick layer of PVC film, while the pattern imitating the texture of wood, fabric, etc. is on the film itself.

Absolutely any pattern can be applied to the surface: from a simple geometric ornament to a photographic image. Most often, the drawing imitates some kind of natural finishing material: tile, stone, brickwork. There are also exotic options, such as reflective film that resembles a mirror surface. Abroad, panels with embossed 3d patterns are widespread, which are extruded onto the surface, unfortunately, it is difficult to find such sections here. However, relief is often used by plastic sheet manufacturers. For example, a sheet with a brickwork pattern looks very impressive, on which each brick is squeezed out.

Installation of PVC wall panels and fixing profiles

Installation of panels on walls and ceilings is simple and is carried out on a frame made of a small section of timber or galvanized steel profiles. For installation, it is necessary to have a set of additional elements - special profiles of H - shaped and F - shaped sections for fastening initial panels, internal and external corners, moldings or skirting boards, as well as fasteners - clamps and clips. All types of standard profiles are shown in the diagram below.

One of the properties of PVC panels is complete vapor permeability, therefore, it is not recommended to decorate the walls of living rooms of apartments, which should "breathe", unless partially. The best use for plastic panels is in places with high humidity and the possibility of rapid contamination. This is the kitchen, toilets and bathrooms, hallways. Especially often, the walls of loggias and window slopes are trimmed with PVC panels.

On the kitchen it is very rational to cover the front of the working equipment with panels due to their high moisture resistance, ease of maintenance and the possibility of various decorative design in accordance with any interior solutions.

In the bathroom, bath or toilet all walls and even the ceiling can be faced with panels, since in these rooms the issue of vapor permeability is not relevant, and the moisture resistance of PVC panels allows them to be successfully used in such rooms saturated with water vapor. In the gallery "" you will find even more photos on this topic.

Wall cladding of loggiasis a great economical option that ennobles these summer spaces. In addition, PVC panels are harmoniously combined with glazing, more precisely with window frames from the same material.

In the hall wall cladding with PVC panels is very rational, since this is a place where walls get dirty quickly, and there are no problems with cleaning plastic panels.

In other rooms, especially living rooms, PVC panels can only be used to highlight some local places for decorative purposes. And there is one more area of \u200b\u200bapplication of panels - device of slopes on windows.

Office interiors

PVC panels are used for office decoration more often than for home decoration. This is due to the functionality of the material, and to the fact that plastic panels without special finishing are perfect for interiors in styles such as high-tech, which is often used in the design of office space. But the price of plastic plays a key role. It is the oat space that needs inexpensive, but decent finishing, since, due to the high traffic of the premises, they have to be repaired regularly.

Creating a cozy home, everyone strives to make it unique, corresponding to habits and tastes. Such opportunities are provided by PVC and MDF panels for walls. The surface of the slab has decorative finishes of various colors and patterns that repeat stone, brick, various patterns in 3D format. The creation of the lathing and sheathing are available for those who like to do their own installation. If you want to have unique 3D images, it is better to order a drawing taking into account the size of the room.

Fiberboard, production and characteristics

My friend and I continued finishing in his new house and another question that arose, what to prefer, MDF panels for walls or PVC. The principle remained the same. I talked about the materials, their features. Vadik listened, analyzed and created his own systems and tables, helping to determine the choice of material.

We had to decorate the walls with MDF panels with our own hands in several rooms with different purposes. We wanted to visually change the dimensions of the rooms with the help of panels. Fiber boards were the first to be discussed. Small wood chips are used to create them. The fractions are bound with resins and pressed under high pressure. The result is a material that is close in its characteristics to natural wood and in some cases superior to it.

  1. Good noise absorption.
  2. Does not warp when wet, since the sawdust has a different direction. With the help of additives, the plates acquire water resistance and such panels are used for the bathroom and kitchen.
  3. Fire-resistant panels do not burn on their own, but they are destroyed in the fire. Allocate harmful substances, depending on what types of MDF are used. Safe E1.
  4. When creating carved elements with a cutter, smooth edges are obtained.
  5. The cost is significantly lower than solid wood.
  6. The surface is painted in different colors with your own hands or covered with plastic. There is a large selection of wall finishes.
  7. High hardness and strength.

The disadvantages include:

  • the release of harmful substances during combustion;
  • as a result of the creation of patterns by carving, fine dust is formed that enters the respiratory organs;
  • it is better to drill holes for self-tapping screws, otherwise they will not twist into solid plates.

With the help of additives and impregnations introduced during production, MDF wall panels acquire additional qualities necessary for the facade, interior and furniture design. Outside, MDF can be: painted in any color with your own hands, covered with plastic, decorative film and laminated. The most demanded drawings are wood, brick and stone. MDF panels for the bathroom are made moisture resistant with an additional protective coating. Do-it-yourself installation requires careful sealing of the ends.

The advantages of PVC and the ability to create a 3D image of the room

In its pure form, polyvinyl chloride is a transparent material in the form of matte granules of various sizes. The molecule is composed of carbon, hydrogen and chlorine atoms. This compound produces toxic substances during combustion. It is better not to fix PVC plates in fire-hazardous premises. But he does not react to water and all household acids and alkalis. Soluble only partially in some pure chemicals.

This makes PVC panels for bathrooms and kitchens an excellent DIY finish option. It is better not to fix them near the hearth of an open flame; it is better to use them for finishing in such places: stone, ceramics, brick.

For the manufacture of panels, it is used painted. The color is introduced during production along with other additives. Therefore, the tone is the same throughout the depth of the material. The stone and brick drawing can be flat and in the form of a 3D image.

To order, the company produces PVC and MDF panels for walls with any pattern, including textured and 3D. Better than others, naturally, looks like imitation of wood of different species, stone and brick. Installation is easy to do by hand.

3D drawings on MDF and PVC panels for interior

According to my stories, for the convenience of choosing, Vadik made a table, entered into it the main dimensions. It includes not all panels for decoration, only the most common ones, which are decorated with brick, stone, wood in 3D format. It is impossible to list all PVC boards and MDF panels for bathrooms and other premises. A large number of manufacturers produce materials, giving them certain characteristics and making their sizes.

Panel view length, cm width, cm thickness, cm application
PVC standard wall 150-405 80-203 0,1 -3
PVC ceiling 250-400 10-50 0,6-1 bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, offices
MDF wall 260 153-325 0,6-1,4 living rooms, kitchens, balconies walls and ceilings
MDF rack 200-400 11-29 10 facade, balconies, rooms
MDF type-setting 29-95 29-95 from 1 walls, ceiling internal
MDF sheet 260-400 120-250 0,6-12 kitchens, bathrooms walls and ceilings

A friend of mine chose for his study slatted panels with a pattern for golden lining. The bottom of the walls was decorated with oak paneling. For a natural look, stripes with a 3D pattern were cut with an offset. On the ceiling, I preferred sheet lamination under light linden wood with the same 3D image. We did it quickly, the installation is not difficult. Underfoot a painted floor of solid slabs MDF. This combination created a feeling of warmth and comfort. Colors ranging from dark at the bottom and almost white at the top have increased the space.

3D panels with manual drawing

When we chose a company to order an individual 3D drawing for the bathroom according to the available dimensions, we saw many interesting developments. Pictures on the whole wall or ceiling are especially impressive. They are mounted on battens with a joint-groove connection using self-tapping screws, or they are fastened with a sticker on a prepared surface.

We decorate the walls with MDF panels with our own hands

They decided to fix thick and rigid slats in the office without crate. We simply installed a special corner and starting profile along the perimeter of the walls and ceiling, using self-tapping screws to fix it. The installation was done strictly according to the level. Slabs were brought into it with their ends and connected to each other in locks. It is better to put cleats on the ceiling, as an additional fastener, under the installation, insuring against deflection and sagging.

Attention! When buying a plastic profile, pay attention to the width of the groove and your sheet.

In the hallway, brick slabs with low stone panels were used. Drawing in 3D technique created the feeling of real masonry. The room is spacious and the installation was done on battens. The dimensions of the sheets are large, so the cladding was additionally fixed with clamps, using self-tapping screws. At the transition from the sheets under the stone to the wall, where the brick is, a special docking profile was installed.

Wall cladding was made with vertical strips along the perimeter and horizontal along the floor, ceiling, in the place of transition of panels of different colors and at a distance of 500 mm. The step size depends on the thickness and stiffness of the sheet. Editing began from the corner to the left, and went in a circle.

The variety of finishing materials creates a platform for creating an individual interior. A popular way of surface finishing is the use of panels. Adherents of the classical trend will like cork panels for walls; MDF products will become an economical design option.

The 3D effect that has blown up the imagination is now also present when decorating surfaces. Studying the characteristics of 3D panels will help you choose the appropriate type of coating for the interior of the walls.

3D technologies in the interior

The tradition of decorating walls with three-dimensional images came to us from ancient Egypt. Modern developments have made an interesting option for surface finishing available to a common man in the street. Various manufacturing technologies allow the use of 3D panels for walls in the interior of premises with various functional purposes.

Types of materials for the design of relief slabs

Competently selected material of 3D panels will prevent the occurrence of problematic moments during operation.

Aluminum. The surface of such products is treated with a polymer film that prevents corrosive processes. The foil has a variety of colors, which provides a wide range of 3D panels for wall design. The volumetric image is formed through the use of perforation technology. Corrosion resistance is an excellent property when choosing 3D panels for a bathroom interior.

Important! The use of the embossed version is possible with sufficient free space, in compact rooms it is better to refuse the idea of \u200b\u200ba volumetric image.

Another advantage of aluminum products is fire resistance, so they will successfully decorate the interior of the kitchen or living room where the fireplace is located. Only the high pricing policy of the trend material can become an obstacle to use.

Plastic significantly reduces the cost of bulk slabs and facilitates the installation process. Characteristic features of PVC panels with 3D effect:

  • resistance to mechanical damage;
  • resistance to moisture, therefore it is permissible to decorate the walls of the bathroom;
  • practicality due to the easy elimination of various contaminants;
  • use in the manufacture of combustible material limits their installation near a fire source.

Wood. The advantage of a slab with a 3D effect made of wood - environmental Safety and strength. The use of valuable species significantly increases the cost of the product. The surface of the panels is coated with varnish or wax. The optimal place for interior decoration is the walls of the bedroom.

The photos below testify to the luxury of the interior when decorating the walls with 3D plates.

Design options

Wall decoration with volumetric panels contributes to the achievement of various goals:

Decorating with volumetric panels is carried out in different ways: the material can cover the entire wall or only its central part. The interior looks very impressive with illumination of relief slabs.

Various combinations of finishing materials successfully correct space imperfections:

  • Discomfort with excessively high ceilings is eliminated by installing horizontal plates.
  • It is better to decorate the interior of a low room with slabs with a vertical pattern.
  • It is preferable to decorate a shaded room with products of light colors.

Installation nuances

The choice of installation method depends on the quality of the walls to be decorated and the characteristics of the finishing material. An ideally flat surface allows you to fix plastic or wood panels using a special adhesive. The presence of errors requires the installation of a crate. A wooden beam is used as the basis for the frame or metal profiles... This approach is more reliable, especially for heavy relief slabs.

Advice! Installation of decorative items is carried out some time after delivery, the material needs to lie down and "get used to" in the new climate. This is especially true for wooden slabs.

Variety of MDF panels

The assortment of MDF boards is characterized by the presence of a large number of copies with an attractive texture. Quite often there is an option where the front surface is painted. The undoubted advantage is the differentiated pricing policy:

  • With a limited budget, wall decoration can be done from non-laminated matte MDF panels.
  • Glossy laminated plates, the cost of which is higher than the painted ones, will allow you to design the interior in an original way.
  • The peak line in the price category is occupied by products with pearlescent tints.

The walls can be decorated with MDF panels, where veneer acts as the top layer - a wood cut with a thickness of no more than 3 mm. The cost of such products is quite high and directly depends on the type of wood used for decorative finishing... Interiors with beech and ash are more common than other options due to the average price category. To achieve fashionable design helps to decorate the walls with MDF panels, where mahogany is used as veneer. You will have to pay a large sum for a spectacular interior.

The walls, finished with MDF boards, create an atmosphere of home comfort in the room. But the material has some features that should be taken into account in advance:

  • The assembly process is carried out with great care due to the fragility of the veneer.
  • For interior decoration, you should choose a room where MDF panels are guaranteed not to be exposed to mechanical stress.

The presented photos in the interior clearly demonstrate the attractiveness of wall decoration with MDF panels.

Aerobatics in design is achieved when decorating walls with 3D panels, the front side of which has a volumetric texture. To obtain the desired effect, the introduction of paint of different composition allows. It contributes to the formation of a metallic sheen on the surface or makes the surface similar to genuine leather... For the kitchen, you can use panels with photographs or paintings. Lamination helps to achieve visual volume, and the relief patterns are processed with natural varnish or waxed.

Cork finishing

The interior looks no less presentable, where the walls are decorated with cork panels. Among the advantages of the material, the following characteristic features are noted:

  • cork - an environmentally friendly coating;
  • no electrostatic effect, dust or pet hair does not settle on the walls;
  • antibacterial properties prevent the appearance of mold or mildew on the panels;
  • easily cleaned of dirt with a damp sponge;
  • low weight does not create difficulties for wall mounting;
  • contributes to the formation of an exclusive interior filled with warmth and comfort;
  • hypoallergenicity is especially appreciated for health problems;
  • retains a persistent color when exposed to the rays of the sun;
  • does not lend itself to combustion, therefore it is suitable for the interior of the kitchen.

Important! The high soundproofing properties are especially appreciated in apartment buildings.

Disadvantages of cork wall panels:

  • The high cost of the product, for 1 m 2 of the product, you will have to pay at least 1000 rubles.
  • The presence of pets will damage the surface of the walls due to their tendency to sharpen their claws.
  • Cork panels easily absorb odors and retain them for a long time. The purchase of products treated with a special composition of varnish or wax will allow you to avoid the problem.
  • The subsequent change of the interior implies the laborious process of dismantling the panels from the walls due to the impossibility of applying new decorative material to them.

The use of cork panels in the interior is practically unlimited. When decorating the walls of a bathroom or kitchen, you should take care of the presence of a special protective coating, in other cases there are no such precautions.

As you can see, there are many interesting ways to decorate walls with panels to create an attractive interior. The main thing is to correctly select the material that corresponds to the initial parameters of the room.

Decorative wall decoration is an essential attribute of any renovation - from cosmetic to major. Changing the wall decoration is the easiest and most effective way to radically change the interior design of any room.

More recently for interior decoration began to be applied new materialwall panels... Wall panels in the interior of a residential building are not yet so familiar to the majority of the population of our country, therefore it is more advisable to understand in more detail their varieties and application features.

The panels will give the room an aristocratic design

As you know, everything new is well forgotten old. The fashion for interior panels came to us in the 18th century from Western Europe. Even during the time of Catherine the Great, it was fashionable to decorate the interiors of aristocratic palaces and merchant houses.

In Soviet times, these attributes of “high style” migrated from the “noble nests” to the interior decoration of administrative buildings, becoming an integral part of the interior “a la Soviet Empire”.

However, for the interior decoration of residential premises, they began to be widely used only in last years with the advent of new, practical and affordable materials on the market. Today you can choose panels for almost any taste - from any material, any colors and textures.

Before giving preference to this type of finishing material, you should carefully read its pros and cons.

pros

It will not be difficult to hide base defects with the help of panels

Modern wall panels have the following positive qualities:

  1. Ease of installation. Their installation does not require the use of any special tools. During installation, you can easily get by with a standard set of "home wizard": drill, perforator, assembly adhesive etc.
  2. There is no need to pre-prepare the walls - plaster, putty, primer. With the help of wall elements, you can hide almost any defects in the supporting base.
  3. The ability to hide under the panels a layer of insulation, sound-proof material, various communications - electrical wiring, ventilation ducts, water and gas pipes.
  4. Great design. Having successfully picked suitable option material, you can give the interior of your apartment a unique and inimitable style.

Minuses

Wood and plaster are not recommended for installation in wet rooms

Like all other finishing materials, wall panels have their drawbacks. First of all, they are associated with the technical features of the material used in their manufacture.

  • plastic models are quite sensitive to external physical influences. When struck or loaded, they can crack or break, therefore certain care should be taken when transporting and storing them;
  • wooden and plaster wall structures are very demanding on the level of humidity in the room. Wood and gypsum do not tolerate excessive moisture due to the peculiarity of absorbing moisture from the air, as a result of which they deform and swell. In addition, wood also does not like dry air - this can cause cracking of its surface.

Types of wall panels

The range of wall panels on the modern market of finishing materials is very wide. For the convenience of buyers, they are classified according to their design and material of manufacture.

By design

Typesetting tiled. They are individual square or rectangular tiles with sides ranging from 30 to 98 cm long. By combining tiles of different colors or textures, you can create truly designer interiors with your own hands.

Panel joints are grooved

Type-setting rack and pinion. They consist of separate long slats, equipped on the sides with “tongue-and-groove” fastening systems, thanks to which their installation is extremely simple.

The joints between individual slats, depending on the design, can be practically invisible, or they can be emphasized in the form of decorative grooves-stripes.

Leafy. They look like wide and long sheets up to 3 m high, with a width of up to 0.6 m and more.

They make it easy and quick to sheathe large areas.

They are mounted on the wall using construction glue, and the gaps between the individual sheets are closed with decorative molding.

Such panels will look great in the hall, hall, etc.

By material

Plastic is mounted on glue or lathing

A wide variety of materials can be used to make wall cladding panels. Depends on it specifications, area of \u200b\u200bapplication, as well as methods of installation of cladding elements for walls.

The table shows the technical characteristics of MDF panels

Installation methods

Depending on the type of panels, three main technologies can be used for their installation:

  • assembly glue;
  • frame crate;
  • kleimers.

Installation with construction adhesive

This technology involves gluing the panel to the supporting base using construction adhesives - "liquid nails", PVA, silicone or acrylic sealant, etc. This method is used for cladding relatively flat walls, since it is difficult to correct unevenness of the base using an adhesive.

Before applying the glue to the wall, it should be cleaned of dust and dirt, and then primed. This will increase the bond between the adhesive and the wall.

Installation on lathing

If the walls are curved, then the panels are attached to the crate

This method is used when it is necessary to level the walls or hide other defects - old wallpaper, peeling plaster, etc. To create a frame, you can use wooden blocks, or metal profiles for drywall. The assembly of the battens should be started from the corners.

We install vertical bars in opposite corners of the wall using a level. To make it more convenient to adjust the distance from the bar to the wall, mounting hangers for gypsum boards are used. After installing two bars, two fishing lines are stretched between them (above and below), along which the remaining elements of the crate are exposed. For more information on installing the lathing, see this video:

In this case, such a step should be observed between them so that the joint of two adjacent panels falls in the middle of the bar.

Installation on kleimers

Attach the clips to the dowels

Cleamers are special fasteners used to mount wall panels. As a rule, this method of fastening is used when installing type-setting tiles on flat walls.

Kleimers are equipped with clamps, into which wall tiles are inserted, and the cleats themselves are attached to the wall using dowel-nails. The gaps remaining between the tiles after installation in the clips are masked with special moldings. For more information on fixing MDF panels, see this video:

As you can see from the above, it is not so difficult to install wall panels yourself. It is enough just to choose the right model and be able to use elementary construction and assembly tools.
